ERS’s Propane QRD(Quick Reaction Device) is an essential component of any Propane Emergency Response Toolkit, designed to swiftly and safely manage overfilled or damaged propane cylinders by incorporating the capacity of an empty cylinder into the system. This additional volume effectively accommodates propane liquid expansion while adhering to standard mitigation protocols.
Operating the device is straightforward: connect the Red Fitting to the affected cylinder and the Green Fitting to an empty cylinder to create an expanded combined volume. Depending on the setup, a single empty 5lb cylinder can augment the total system volume by 5% to 20%.
Given propane’s expansion rate of 1.5% per 10°F, the device supports expansions ranging from 30°F to 130°F, depending on the cylinder size ratio. Moreover, connecting the device enables the recovery vessel’s pressure relief valve (PRV) to function as a secondary PRV. A built-in Pressure Gauge allows for quick assessment, while the QCC Type-1 fitting provides flexibility for operational strategies such as flaring, transferring, or utilizing the original regulator for propane consumption.
Key features include a robust design featuring a 10-foot stainless-steel reinforced braided LP-Rated hose, a 0-400psi pressure gauge, a 300psi ASME rated relief vent, and a QCC Type-1/POL connection. Internal stainless-steel braiding ensures excellent electrical continuity below 10Ω, exceeding NEC bonding requirements (section 250-56 25Ω), and simplifying grounding system connections (grounding system not included).
