Description

Propane QRF (Quick Response Fitting) Kit Engineered exclusively for properly trained First Responders such as Firefighters and Hazardous Materials personnel.

Rapid Tactical Solution for Overfilled Propane Cylinders

In high-stakes incidents where a DOT-rated propane cylinder is overfilled or compromised and cannot be safely moved — such as food trucks at crowded events, fixed installations, or high-occupancy venues — the Propane QRF Kit provides firefighters and HazMat teams with a fast, field-proven mitigation tool. This modified device enables quick volume expansion without attempting dangerous relocation, reducing pressure buildup and giving responders critical time to stabilize the scene.

The Science: Managing Insufficient Vapor Headspace

Propane expands approximately 1.5% in volume per 10°F temperature rise. Cylinders are designed for a maximum 80% liquid fill to maintain adequate vapor headspace. Overfilled cylinders lose this safety margin, leading to rapid pressure spikes that can discharge liquid through the PRV or, in worst cases, create BLEVE conditions.

The Propane QRF uses proven volume expansion mitigation tactics. By linking the problem cylinder to an empty recovery vessel, it instantly increases total system volume and headspace. A single 5 lb empty cylinder typically adds 5–20% system volume — enough to safely manage temperature swings from 30°F to 130°F and dramatically lower pressure.

Enhanced Multi-Connection Versatility

The updated Propane QRF Kit features a comprehensive adapter set for real-world incidents:

  • CGA510 (POL) Adapter
  • CGA555 Adapter
  • QCC Adapter
  • CGA790 (Forklift) Adapter
  • CGA350 Adapter
  • CGA600 (1 lb cylinder) Adapter
  • 1/4″ RV Quick Connect Adapter

Simple Field Connection:

  1. Attach the correct adapter to the tank valve.
  2. Connect via the ISO 7241-1 Series B quick coupler to the QRF device.
  3. Link the green side to a purged empty recovery vessel with the 10 ft stainless steel reinforced LP hose.

Tactical Operations & Stabilization

Once pressure is stabilized, the Propane QRF’s QCC fitting offers multiple tactical options: flaring/venting operations or attaching the existing regulator to allow safe continued use of the cylinder when appropriate.

The kit also includes a Tactical Auto-Refrigeration Adapter for quickly and safely reducing cylinder pressure by controlled auto-refrigeration.

This device is designed to seamlessly integrate with the Emergency Responder Solutions Propane/BHO Mini-Flare kit and most existing propane flaring kits.

After reducing excess volume (via Spitter Valve or approved methods), the device can be safely disconnected.

Critical Safety & Operational Features

  • 0–400 psi pressure gauge for real-time monitoring
  • 300 psi ASME-rated relief vent (primary protection)
  • Secondary protection from the recovery cylinder’s PRV
  • Complete bonding bath between cylinders for electrical continuity and static prevention
  • Internal stainless-steel braiding (<10Ω continuity)
  • Rugged Cordura nylon carry bag with shoulder strap

Complete Kit Contents

  • Propane QRF Device with 10 ft stainless steel reinforced LP hose
  • Full adapter set: CGA510 (POL), CGA555, QCC, CGA790 (Forklift), CGA350, CGA600 (1 lb), 1/4″ RV Quick Connect
  • Tactical Auto-Refrigeration Adapter (for controlled pressure reduction via auto-refrigeration)
